Hi all.

There seems to be a trend for downloads to fail after certain amount of data has been downloaded.
For the past two days I tried to download the same file for three times, each time failing at 527 MB downloaded. That's not a coincidence, that's predetermination. The host also failed another file roughly in the same size multiple of times last week, but I didn't pay that much of attention to specifics, since I'm kind of use to it to fail.
So why do we need such a host?

If you have an issue with a filehost, it is not automatic a general issue, and not a need to remove a filehost which is working great in general. We have no issues at all with rapidgator.

You are not typing if you are premium or free member.

As premium member there is no issue at all, but maybe you can use a download manager with resume option? If a download is broken, it continue where it was.

Why would membership type make any difference, unless downloads are designed to fail with the free one, which at the moment is the only thing that explains the behavior.

A download failed again last night at 527MB. Different file than the last, but the result was the same. Rapidgator used to work somehow even with larger files, but obviously something has changed in the past months.

If I'm truly the only one who is suffering from this problem, obviously the cause of the problem does not reside on RG's end.
To that end, any comments about the issue are appreciated.

I've not had any issues, but I also do not use a free account and I use a download manager.

I started thinking about the issue yet again, after 2GB file downloaded successfully from turbobit of all hosts. Then I remembered this ancient lore, delete all temporary internet files, and lo and behold, the issue was resolved.  Grin

It seems that my joy was premature. I managed to download couple of files without any problems, but  the behaviour started again. All things considered, I revert back to my original statement. Something ain't right with RG.

Experienced the same with some filehosts (Rapid, Filejoker and sometimes Turbobit as well) in the last month. The most recent ones in the last week where fine again though. Not sure if that is permanent.
Best results are with Keep2Share (which at least allows resume and since a few days is really fast as well) and of course Mega which allowed 100Mbit also for free users.

The question is also if it is really hoster specific and does not happen with others. E.g. years ago my router had a firmware bug which led to such failures (only on long running transfers, no problem with short=fast ones) if ipv6 was enabled.

    Hi azog,

RG for free users has time & file size limitations as explained in this article from RG support knowledgebase:

regarding the file size this article needs to be updated: each uploader can choose at his Profile page \ Download options, the Max. file size he wants to allow for free users; the list includes 400, 500, 1024 or 2048 MiB.
Most likely the file you get blocked on has been uploaded with a 500 MiB restriction. Have you tried to talk to the uploader? maybe he's not aware of that.

Minimum requirements to uncompress & play HEVC/x265 or AV1 encoded videos:
    1. An updated player (VLC or PotPlayer)
    2. A powerful machine with at least a dual core CPU
    -

Hi, and thanks for the input!

This is a valuable piece of information, since I had no clue such option even existed. This would explain explain why some downloads fail repeatedly after a certain amount of data has been transferred. Mind you that some files fail later on at 1GB, but the behaviour is the same.

At this point this is the best explanation, since it seems to be the only one, but I am yet to figure out why the downloads don't fail exactly at 500 MiB. It is more of a nuance than anything else, since I'm convinced that your explanation is the one that holds water, despite the fact that I currently have a failed RG download at 736MB as well. The other one failed at 1,02GB, which is one of the predetermined limits. And sure, I'm aware that the 736MB could be coincidence.

So to wrap it up, the downloader doesn't have a clue will his download fail at some point or not unless he tries to download it first. This is vastly stupid in comparison for example how filespace works. If the file size is greater than x, then you are not able to download the file in the first place.

I haven't contacted the uploaders, because I was not aware of the limitation option in the first place. I will also not do so in the future, since it's lot more easier to just skip the files. Porn just isn't that important.

    Thanks again...

    Oh, I almost forgot...

I'm pretty sure that Turbobit and Uploaded have similar pre-determined kill limits nowadays. I've had no issues with Filejoker, K2S, Fboom or Mega.
