Title: Rar and hjsplit on mac osx
Post by: gtijohn69 on October 27, 2009, 08:04:46 PM
Hi guys and girls, the hard disc on my windows machine has died and I can't even reinstall windows.
I do have an imac G5 which I am using till I can replace the drive on my windows machine, but I'm a bit green on macs. Does anyone know of a program to unrar files on osx?, also, is there a mac version of hjsplit that actually works?.

Just in case you are wondering, I normally only use the mac for photo editing and emails etc., like to keep it clean and wholesome. :)

Thanks for any help you can give and Karma will come your way of course.

John.

To join split files, I've been using Ajoiner.app, version 2.1.6,  for years.  No trouble.
To unrar, I've been using UnRarX, version 2.2, for years.  No trouble.

If you want to keep your Mac clean and wholesome, why not go to System Preferences > Accounts and add a new account?
1. Nobody can get into your porn without a password for that account.
2. You'll be able to use all your applications from each account, but personal stuff like documents (including movies) and bookmarks will stay in their respective  accounts.
3. Separate accounts make it easier to avoid misplacing documents.
4. The Shared folder is accessible to all accounts.  That's a means for transferring files between accounts.
5. If somebody gums up one account, the rest should still work fine.
6. It makes it easy to remove all the porn from a machine.

RAR Expander does both the expanding and the joining.
It is a nice neat package, i'm using it on OS 10.6.
Best of all its free!

TO join those split files I use a program call Split and Concat. So far I haven't had anything it wouldn't join.

For Rar files use UnrarX or Rarmachine. I could post links to those programs if the mods permit it.

I've been exclusively Mac since 2002 and haven't come up against a file yet that I couldn't get to work.

Entropy (best osx interface), Betterzip (pretty good however).
