I started with a 1960 Austin Healey bugeye Sprite. I've owned the car since 1971 it was my daily driver for about 15 years then it sat in the garage for 25 years or more ,November 2010 I decided it was time to get the car out and start rebuilding it I looked at it I said what am I going to do wait another 20 years till I am too old to enjoy it? So I started sanding it, we ended up up wrapping the garage and plastic and painting the car inside the garage the color theme for the car was British racing green and flat black all the chrome that would've been on the car was all sandblasted and powder coated by me in my own garage then I got a conversion to 72 V electric as about 220 amp hours in the car which gives it a range of about 70 miles. I hope to eventually have closer to 1000 amp hours. I used a Canyon race with the car back in the 70s and I'd forgotten just how much fun I had driving that car but now that it's back on the road I am enjoying it even more

Any reason why you did go electric? It's interesting choise.

I decided to go electric for a couple of reasons. One of which was about five years ago I came across sweet deal on a 15,000 watt solar panel system. I picked it up by repainting somebody's car. It's enough to keep my whole house up and running off the grid and have extra left over. So I decided that instead of putting the $40 a week into gasoline for my truck I just use electricity from the sun. Plus my commute isn't that much it's only about 12 miles round-trip. It's just for the cost of the system plus batteries will take me about two years to recoup that money by not paying for gas. Plus on a electric car there is zero maintenance under the hood ,the batteries are all sealed. And to be honest right now driving the car ,the loudest thing on the car is the radio.The conversion was actually really really easy to do. It still has a standard transmission in it .the electric motor is just hooked up through an adapter plate right onto the transmission.If I really wanted to other than having to Purchase a fuel cell and install it, I could have my gasoline motor back in my car in about four hours. my batteries, electric motor would all just pull out and gasoline the motor would go right back in.

So it really is used as your daily driver even now?
Must be great car on sunny days, I can't even imagine how much that would draw attention, even my more common old Volvo does catch much of interest.

Must be sucky though to lose the sweet engine note, but at the same time electric car must be blast to drive.

Yeah it's my daily driver I drive it everywhere. At least within the circle of influence. Trips longer than that I have to take my truck. I'm getting ready for an upgrade to my batteries and have about 440 amp hours and should give me a range of about 160 miles. And yes I do miss the sound of the engine it had a sweet sound especially going through tunnels. But am investigating an ap for my smart phone that will put engine sounds through my stereo it uses the accelerometer in the phone to determine your speed. Apparently you can get the sounds of Jaguar , Austin Martin ,Porsche, and apparently other sports cars as well. But no matter what it is it just won't be the same. And yes the car does get a lot of attention both wanted and unwanted, I was driving the other day and a a police officer was going the other direction passed me by and is swung around and then pulled me over  said I did a unsafe lane change, but he did not write me a ticket, but spent 20 min. looking at my car. but i said he didn't have to bullshit me, if he wanted to look at the car just say you want to look at the car.I am happy to talk to people about my electric car.as long as I'm not on my way to work or somewhere else that I have to be.

That's an awesome set of wheels and I'd love to see how she drivers on electricity, have you thought of making a driving video?  

I wish I had the time to invest in doing the same for my baby. Some time ago I looked at the steps of going through CNG conversion but due to limited space it would be a very small tank or I would end up with no room for the roof to fold down in to which would suck.   Angry
