97 chevy cavolier help

hello all I got a 97 chevy cavolier. A few months back I got the check engine error. I also noticed i started smelling fuel quite often when I would park my car. Took it to the mechanic, said it was my fuel injectors, got them replaced, along with a fuel pump. Next thing, car dont start anymore and he assumes i need a new engine. Anyone have a problem like this before?

I've got a 98 Pontiac Sunfire, which is the same car, with different body panels, and had very similar problems with it. I ended up replacing spark plugs, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, and a few fuses. One, a few, or all of these fixxed my problem, though the check engine light remained till I had a mechanic do a diagnostic and clear it.

New engine? I suggest a new mechanic. Buy a full engine is the last thing to do...

If your mechanic can't fix it or even give you a decent answer, you need a new mechanic.

If all else fails, take it to your local Chevrolet/GM dealer. Personally, I only use my local dealer.
