Here's a preliminary short reply, I'll add other comments later.
Of course filehost evaluation is sujective and it also depends on locations.
I'm referring to free users. I dont' have any premium account.

    mediafire.com:
Pros: Very fast and not restrictive, one of the very vest filehosts.
Cons: Files tend to be deleted quickly, does not allow RAR files.

    letitbit.net:
    Pros. None.
Cons: I never managed it to download directly. It worked a very few times using JDownloader but overall most downloads failed. Slow and unreliable. Mostly useless outside Russia.

    turbobit.net:
Pros: Allows parallel downloads, not restrictive at all. Since a couple of months it has become much more reliable than in the past. Downloaded many files without any problem.
Cons: Sometimes downloads fail but it's easy to restart a new download. Speed is often slow.  Not available everywhere.

    4shared.com
    No experience.

Uploading.com (not to be confused with uploaded.net)
Pros: Works well and is fast.
Cons: Don't know (not enough volume to say).

    share-online.biz:
Only used it a few times. Didn't have any problem but don't remember how fast and how restrictive it is.

    rapidgator.net:
Pros: None (beside that files usually download correctly).
Cons: Absolutely awfully restricitve. Even takes in account failed downloads. Captcha expires quickly. Should be banned, it's one of teh cash-hosts which ruins SAFF.

    fileflyer.com:
IIRC I never managed to download a single file from there.

    vip-file.com:
    Pros: None.
Cons: Never managed it to download a single file from there. Should be banned.

    clipshouse.com:
Pros: Very fast and seems reliable, extremely few download problems.
    Cons: Rather restrictive.

netload server is down since May 2015:
    Pros: None
Cons: I always had problems with that filehost while other find it good.

    crocko.com:
    Pros: None.
Cons: IIRC I never managed it to download a single file from there.

    extabit.com:
Pros: Works. Don't remember how fast nor how reliable and restricitive it is. Not enough recent experience.
    Cons: (?)

    filefactory.com:
    Pros: None.
Cons: Has become somewhat restrictive and quite unreliable. In the past it was a good filehost but few times I tried more recently it was unreliable. There were also various server issues.

    filepost.com:
Pros: Not much recent experience but download worked. No precise idea about current speed, reliability and restrictivness.
    Cons. (?)

asfile host is not existing anymore.com:
    Pros: None.
Cons: Rarely works. Lots of technical problems (depends on the day). Should be banned.

livefile is not longer existing, if there is no mirror in this threat, please report as dead link.:
Downloads worked. Didn't use it recently so I can't comment it.

    bitshare.com:
Downloads worked. Didn't use it recently so I can't comment it.

    freakshare.com:
Pros: Downloads worked. Not enough recent experience so I can't comment speed, reliability and restrictiveness.
    Cons: (?)

    k22p2share.cc
    Pros: None.
Cons: Absolutely awfully restrictive. Also takes in account downloads which don't even start. Various technical issues. Aborted downoads are not rare. One ot the worst filehosts. Together with Rapidgator such cash-hosts are ruining SAFF.

    APPROVED FILEHOST LIST

I'm firmy against the relationship between MyDownloader and the approved filehost list. This only ruins SAFF because material uploaded with awful filehosts only encourages SAFF members to google better mirrors. In the past I never did that but since some boards are flooded by keep2share and Rapidgator cash-posts I've started googling better links elsewhere.
Another issue is that the MyDownloader supported filehost list changes frequently, so one day the filehost you commonly use is approved and the next day it's suddenly forbidden as primary filehost (or the opposite).

IMO SAFF should not allow filehosts which are way too restrictive for free users and/or which cause problems. Or, if doing so only, firmly enforcing a new rule forcing uploaders to upload files up to the file size limit for free users before starting to split any video (but doing so would lead cash-uploaders to split large videos in shorter stand-alone videos instead of making multi-part RAR archives so I don't see well how such rule could be firmly enforced).

Ideally all filehosts should be allowed as long as at least one set of files is available with a filehost belonging to a very small list of filehosts which work well for most users. The only exceptions being filehosts which cause technical problems like crashing many browsers or excessive ads.

But for sure having the allowed filehost list tied to the sponsoring MyDownloader is bad. More generally while I understand that SAFF needs money to be operated, filehost alliances are bad because they restrict the free filehost choice.

Fortunately Depositfiles is again approved despitte (currently) not being supported by the non-free MyDownloader.
A few good additional filehosts like for example Hotfile should become primary filehosts (i.e. being listed in the dropdown list).

Ideally all filehosts considered as good by most SAFF users should be permanently part of the primary filehost list regardless of the frequently changed MyDownloader-supported filehost list and be removed only in case of problems like for example drastically limiting terms of service changes like it happened with Rapidshare.

I generally don't mind those filehosts because i have just renewed MD

but as a free member in the U.S.

as far as i can remember...

    mediafire usually pretty quick
turbobit, letitbit, vip-file and maybe others don't work in the U.S.
Rapidgator is slow with only maybe few downloads a day
keep2share is slow with only 2 or 3 files a day
    netload is slow
    extabit is slow
    filepost is slow
filefactory is slow with timeslot issues at times
freakshare not too fast but better than most MD has to offer when in free mode, similar speed with depositfiles and prefer it to depositfiles which i wish would go away
asfile host is not existing anymore is pretty restrictive, 1 download a day unless you keep your browser open for 5400 seconds and remember to get back to it to download another file and sometimes there's an internet issue that interferes and you have to start all over with it, so in free mode, i used to ignore the host for the most part

all others i don't have any experience in free mode, except clipshouse, which no longer appears on MD but still downloads clips from there

Interestingly filehost experience widely depends on locations (but it can also depend on periods or on the time of the day, I remember some filehosts which were acceptable durung some hours of the day/night while totally useless during others). Here Letitbit it totally useless while in some locations it seems to work well. Some filehosts like Turbobit which now works quite well here can't even be accessed from some countries.

Maybe there should be a specific topic to discuss filehosts which should be added.

Fortunately currently Depositfile and Luckyshare are allowed despite not being supported by MyDownloader.

Overall it's also important to consider how much a filehost is used: If a bad filehost is rarely used I don't care as long as it still allows downloads for free users. OTOH it's a major PITA if awfully restrictive filehosts like Rapidgator or Keep2Share are widely used because as free user you can't catch up downloading before files are deleted from the filehost, and especially if cash-uploaders split files.

IMO we should either have a very small compulsory list of free filehosts which most users consider as good or only have a filehost blacklist which prohibits really bad filehosts (while allowing them as mirror unless they cause technical problems like excessive pop-ups or so). Of course this would not be possible due to the current sponsoring alliances.

And any Premium files should be banned. Period.
    SAFF is about freely sharing.

I don't understand why so less responds here. We have over 30k unique visitors a day and 26 poll users, and a few replies.

I guess that's just a normal thing. It's absolutely not specific to SAFF, like in real world democracy, only very few will ever raise a voice while the vast majority remains silencious. Smiley

Update (I'll update my post above later)::

    crocko.com:
I used it the other day, the download was rather slow (about 50 kB/s) but, more importantly, it worked. No idea about restrictions for free users as I only got a single file.

    uploaded.to:
As already mentioned, it has become way more restrictive than in the past but I don't exactly how the manage the restrictions.
Recently I noticed some random download issues with large files (aborted downloads). A couple of months ago there were less issues but overal downloads are still reliable.

    keep2share:
Unlike what had been promised, that filehost is still awfully restrictive and there are still reliability issues. But the bug about downloads not starting seems to have been fixed as anounced some time ago, at least all downloads started normally (but some did finally fail).

asfile host is not existing anymore:
Is very restrictive and odd about how delays are handled. I can only recommend to use a free software like JDownloader to download from asfile host is not existing anymore (also use it for Hotfile as that during the periods without captchas files download automatically).

    Letitbit:
I checked my logs and noticed that indeed it worked maybe once or twice but only using JDownloader. I never ever managed it to download directly from a browser. But it's also well known that Letitbit issues vary a lot depending on locations. It's one of the filehosts who is known to handle restrictions according to the location of the user.

    Rapidshare:
As additional information (even if not part of the listed filehosts of the 1st message): While files are very often not available due to traffic volume limits, it's good to know that traffic counters are reset daily exactly (+/- 1 second) at midnight (Swiss time, i.e. currently UTC+ 01h00min00s; when European daylight saving is applicable it would be UTC+02h00min00s)).
So it's best to try to download just after midnight but of course it's still a lottery. I suppose JDownloader has been updated accordingly but I didn't check it. RS is mostly interesting for older files. Very fast and reliable.

    New Megaupload:
Never used it. Would like to read some feedback. I don't care about police/justice collaboration nor about how long it will survive as currently any filehost can die overnight so it's about downloading as quickly as possible as files won't survive very long anyway (many filehosts delete files quite quickly anyway for whatever reason). Legal considerations are mostly pointless as filehosters (and more exactly data center operators) will disclose logs during investigations wherever they're located so it's way more about which user data and especially logs are stored or not.
So overall I'd like it to be approved if reliable and not too restrictive.

The poll is poorly worded which probably cuts down a bit on participation.
Also, the poll post was not easy to see. I think because there is so much noise in the spot where the poll was mentioned that people skipped it.
