I hope you can find the problem. At the moment the forum is barely useable for me.

Could be a different issue then.

The problem to which I'm referring can't be reproduced.  There are only a few Staff that have reported it, and they say it's random and not consistent.  And there are several of us that have not seen the problem at all.

Sometimes the sites load really slow and then I get the "Error: Connection failed" page. This happens when I browse a board or a topic. Sometimes it stops loading the preview images while im browsing a board. When I hit F5 to reload the page I get the "Error: Connection failed" page. This only happens here. It happens with FireFox and Chrome. When the problem happens it causes all tabs which are currently loading and all tabs which I open after the problem happen to fail. The problem is that this doesn't always happen. It happens from time to time.

I browse the board and open all new topics with crtl click in a new tab. At frist I thought that the problem happens when I open to many tabs at once. But it also happens when I only open one topic. Sometimes it happens all the time and a few minutes later it doesn't happen at all.

    It looks like this:
    https://i.imgur.com/JCWon0p.png
    https://i.imgur.com/P1lgJCf.png

Even the smilies need long to load:
    https://i.imgur.com/YKe1qeA.png

I just tried to access the site with a webproxy and it loaded really fast. Is there some kind of limit while browsing the forums?

It's been happening for the last 2 days, off and on.  Once it happens, I have to wait a few minutes, then things start working again.  I haven't seen any CloudFlare warnings or anything else identifiable.... just doesn't work, then it does work.

Happened just now - well, 2 minutes ago.  Firefox says "Connection refused"; tried in Chrome and got a similar error.  Hope this helps with log checking.

Glad im not the only one with this problem Cheesy For me it happens a few weeks now. It's exactly like turtleboy described. It looks like the server blocks all connections of you and you have to wait a few minutes. With proxy or other ips it works so it must be related to the ip.

There seems to be an issue with the image server now. Can post without images but %99 of the time when I add the images I get this.

Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

Please consult your server administrator for more information.

I've been getting this over the past few weeks on and off.
    "err connection refused" using Chrome.

Googling the problem suggested clearing cookies might help. Not sure I noticed any immediate improvement but last couple of days its been Ok. Could be intermittent though.

It's browser related, but no fix has been found that I have heard so far.

Using FF 56.0.2, I have no issues.  As soon as I login using the new FF, I will get the error within a few pages if not immediately.

reading all replies, I guess the amount of connections at once can give issues. 1 page will open several connections (to speed up).

I am curious if these errors are there on moments if there are many people logged in. If you check the index at the bottom, you can see how many people are online.

There is a proxy solution, you can send me a personal message to receive info about that.

    Hello there,

I've also been having this issue for a few weeks now.
And it's not browser related as I've tried with 3 different ones.

From my end, it looks like the forum goes impredictably offline for several seconds and then back online.

I've done all that should be done in such a case (clearing cache, verifying this and that) and all seems ok.

I'm surprised that no-one has come up with a solution so far, either saff staff or some members.....

As I noted above, there are NO issues with the older version of Firefox (56.0.2).  Any of the newer versions of the FF have the issue.  If the site was going off line, then I would be seeing the issue with the old version of FF.

I tried different browsers and get the error with FireFox and Chrome through all versions since I made this topic.

Then I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I can't reproduce the issue with ver. 56.x of Firefox.  I've been on the site 5 straight hours now with no issues.

If I close the old version and open the new version of FF (Quantum), the problem occurs within the first couple of links that I click and it will often occur immediately and not even let me onto the site.

EDIT:  I will add that the latest version (v63.0.1) seems to be working, at least longer than the last time that I tested it.  I was able to click around multiple topics with the error.

I jsut tried 63.0.3 (64-Bit) and it still happens. I went to Forced handjobs and ruined orgasms and oppened multiple tabs. At first it looked like the problem was gone. Then I went to site two and the preview images suddenly stopped loading. Then I got the error connection problem again. All tabs failed loading and the site didn't respond anymore.

When moderating I open 10, 15 up to 20 tabs of posts at a time and do not have this issue.

Have you all ever considered it is your ISP.

I use up to date Chrome and a Chrome clone called Iron.

BTW I kicked FireFox to the curb at version 27. I got tired of the continual updates that messed with my Norton Toolbar, other plug-ins and extensions.

    20 tabs opened no problem.

    ETA:
In my case, it seems firefox isn't  the problem, it's my vpn connection. The 'outages' are concurrent when using opera browser thru the vpn. When I switch opera to use the opera proxy/vpn, there are no outages.

To be clear, I can also open multiple tabs (I just opened 15) when connections are good. The problem is intermittent. When it occurs, it happens for a period of a few minutes where no window will connect. Then it will be okay again, for a few minutes and repeat. There are no warnings from antivirus.

I'm going thru a vpn, and no matter which country I use the same thing happens. I'm using firefox and wondering what changed from v56.x to v63

Today I've opened hundreds of pages without incident even through firefox and the same VPN as before.

Has something changed on this server?

Maybe the following strange behavior can provide a clue:

Browsing and sending karma with Opera is no problem whatsoever. When I reply to a thread, I get this error even though the post shows up as a valid response (delayed, perhaps up to a minute)

    This site can’t be reached

    Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.

I think your server is misconfigured in some way.

Still works using the old version of FF.

I dumped FF Quantum (it had issues with SAFF as noted above) for various performance issue.

I have since switched to Chrome, and I've not had any connection issues with Chrome either.

me too and the problem is growing!
    tons of white screens meanwhile.
this is a problem with the SAFF board software or the hoster - maybe  SAFF should go offline for a deeper look.

this horror error is still alive here on SAFF and only here!!!
white screen after one click - waiting 2-3 minutes and after watching one or two pages another white screen... - it happens under firefox and! chrome.
    this is pure torture!
    not really acceptable!
i am back in posting new stuff here but under these circumstances it is a punishment.
SAFF has also this weird (waiting) log-in - maybe here a problem?
    i surfing with a win 7 PC - win 7 is a problem?
this strange white no connection screen is only here so i think the problem is here too!
SAFF is dying - low traffic - more and more downloaders staying away - (one) overmotivated mod  Wink - so the end is near?

I'm still on Win7 as well and using Chrome as noted above.  After switching to Chrome as noted above, I no longer experience the issue, so I can't reproduce it for testing to rule out other causes.  Even when I could reproduce the issue, it is only affecting a very small percentage of users (as you can see by the very limited traffic in this topic).  Last I checked, no other Staff members were seeing the issue either.

When I initially contacted Admin, no changes had been made to SAFF between when everything was normal and when the trouble was reported.  So while it appears to be a SAFF "issue", it's likely not the forum (ie: software/config/hardware), at least not in the sense that SAFF changed something and broke.

    @mrangry

another funny fact is,that i have used 2 different PC in that error periode - both with win 7 64bit.
interesting other fact is,that you have no error with chrome but i have it with chrome too.
    very mysterious.
maybe the saffserver needs a fresh updated win7?
i work and have worked on both pc with win7 systems with an older not updated version. Roll Eyes

Servers don't use standard consumer OS versions such as Windows 7.  It will either be Unix or a Windows Server edition.  I don't know the specifics for SAFF as I don't have access to those details.

In any case, I doubt it's OS related.  More likely an ISP or internet routing issue.

you can disable that auto update.
