Who would have thought a World Cup tournament first time held in Africa is becoming the African Teams worst nightmares. As more Analysts and pundits have predicted that an African team maybe a contender for the cup for the first time in history and they were not totally wrong judging by the fact that half of the of the starts of big European leagues are either of African origins from actual African Nations or like Drogba, Eto, Zidane (Egyptian playing in Borussia Dortmund) but the days keep going, we keep witnessing more and more of the 6 teams representing Africa fall like autumn leaves. The last one was Cameroon who thought that they were the kings of the world for the first 10 minutes before things turn nasty afterward . Now Cameroon is out and also Nigeria , South Africa and Algeria are almost out (The first mathematically and the latter is just a speculation since Algerians don't have the muscle to face the USA).

The only two countries that still stand a chance of getting to the second round are Ghana and Ivory Coast who have an uphill battle to fight since Ghana must win the next game against Germany or at least draw  to secure a place in the the next round. They failed to keep a win against a once ailing Australian team with only 10 players today. Of course that will be so hard to the Ghanians who will face the bruised Germans in the next game that everyone looking forward for. Ivory coast is in no better condition and have to beat both Brazil or at least draw to try to beat North Korea in a third game. If none of the African country pass to the next level then it will be a disastrous consequence for Africa's pride and football game since the likeness of decreasing their seats in the next World cup tournament will be very viable judging from the fact the Asians are doing ok so far as well the South Americans who might claim for a seat to be taken from the African Continent. This is all the fault of the stupid system of the African Qualification for World cup. The African 3 time Champion Egypt is denied a place in the world cup just because they have to qualify in silly conditions and unfair terrains around the continent.  For instance, in the Last African Nations competition Egypt defeated all the qualified African Teams.
1- VS Nigeria. Egypt Won 3/1
    2- VS Cameroon . Egypt Won 3/1
    3- VS Algeria . Egypt Won 4/0
4- VS Ghana (Final) Egypt Won 1/0

Egypt is ranked no 12 in the world and was 10th 3 months ago . Russia , Croatia, Egypt. Ranked 10,11,12 are not in the world Cup. North Korea ranked 104th and is in the world Cup!!!!! The World cup needs a new qualifications system where winning continental cups should matter because that is an actual Champion that deserves to be in the world cup. Our beloved sport is the only sport that denies the continental champion to be in the world cup directly. So Brazil winning Copa America is not Good enough for it to be in the tournament till they qualify and Same for Spain and Egypt as well Iraq (Asian Cup Champion) the last 2 didn't qualify . IS that silly and ridiculous or what? Tell me any other sport that this nonsense actually happen. Not Handball, Not Basketball, volleyball, hockey, Waterpolo, Ice Hockey even Individual sports. You have to be a champion or ranked one to be in the world champions but no Sir not Football. Amazing isn't it and then we complain about the mediocrity of the World cup. Back to the Games now.

    Holland - Japan 1-0

An average speed game which was surprising to many due to the fact that both contenders play some of the fastest football in the world, yet the first half was not very eventful from both sides though the Dutch were in more control of the game but that didn't lead to anything positive on both goals. The Dutch dominated the game 60-40 in total but the only action started in the second half with a slightly faster pace game then the first one. After several attempts on the goal , Milan great Dutchman Sneijder scored at the 53rd minute after a great pass from Van Persie who managed to fool the defense and pass it smoothly to Sneijder who shot a great shot on the Japanese Goalie who tried to tip it away but it went into the net . The Goal was enough to announce that Holland is in the next round deservingly . The rest of the game were some unorganized trials by the Japanese for a tie and also some attempts by the Dutch to increase the score. The best moment was the actual goal in an overall average game. Japan still retains it's hopes but they have to defeat the organized Danes in the third game.

    Ghana - Australia 1-1

Another average game that would have have announced Ghana to be the actual first African side of the tournament to pass to the next round but the Australians thought differently. The game started by a very controlling ball passing game by the Ghanians who did everything right except to score goals thanks the numerous misses of Gyan who misses more certain goals than most strikers in the world lately . A trend he has been keeping ever since the African Nations cup. The Australians managed to score first on the 11th minute a good call by Holeman. But the Ghanians who were actually dominating the game and the goal seemed to come against the flow of the game managed to put pressure on the scared Australians which ended up in Kewell Being sent after deliberately pushing the ball out of the net in the 25th minute and a penalty was awarded to Ghana. Gyan scored the penalty nicely . Everyone though it was over and the Ghanians now can finish them by a knockout but the Australian monster was suddenly out and they managed to get back in the game very quickly due to the excellent stamina of their players who managed to play for about 70 minutes and no one felt that they were missing anyone. The surprise was that it was actually Australia who were about to score so many times all the way to the last second of the 2nd half . Thanks to their good spirits . Australia still hold an acceptable chance to get to the next level . Good game overall.

    Denmark - Cameroon 2-1

Both team losing their first game gave both no alternative but to go for the 3 points. Something that the Cameroonians have done thanks to the Danish defense blunder in the tenth minute by a missed pass which was captured by the Cameroonian forwarder and passed nicely to the fantastic Eto who placed it smoothly in the net of the Danish keeper. Terrible mistake from the Danish defenders who kept doing that several times in the game.

Eto celebrated as if he actually won the world cup by that goal and apparently that go into the head of the Cameroonians that they lost pace and concentration despite their good attacking football but always terrible finishings in front of the goal. The early celebration of the first goal had a terrible effect on the players and the less talented but more disciplined Danes managed to turn the tide in their favour by Bendtner who finalized on the best counter attacks I have seen this year. Starting from the Left back who passed a long 48 Meters Lob to the right winger who passed it smoothly to Bendtner to score the equalizer. The effect of this goal was great on the morale of the Danes who tried to organize their defense in a better despite serious faults and the lack of good defense that distinguishes the West African teams have played a part in the second goal at the 2nd  by . Rommedahl who managed to dribble past the Cameroonian left back who was terrible all night and a main cause of Cameroons defeat today . Rommedahl left leg smart kick found itself on the right side of the Cameroonian goalie at the 61st minute.

The Cameroonians desperately did everything by attacking with all 3 lines and failed to get an equalizer and despite their good skills , they are the first team in the tournament to be officially out as there is mathematical chances to keep there. Tough luck but a good lesson to all teams to drop their silly celebrations and save them till after the game is over.

Again I am hoping that this tournament would not turn out to be a curse and a nightmare for the Africans in order that they retain the places they fought so hard for decades for. Also to keep the good reputation and image of the African football and footballers worldwide.

See you guys tomorrow and waiting for your comments while thanking you for your ever great support. Take it easy fellas and enjoy today's game of Brazil, Italy and Paraguay as they should be interesting. Grin

Not a great deal to say to be honest was a quiet sort of Day for me , I am glad Holland one and found the Australia Ghana game odd as Ghana seemed asleep
Denmark Cameroon came alive and had very exciting parts so al in all a good game.

I am very much looking forward to tonights Brazil Ivory coast game and I think as does the great MOTTY of BBC fame that these two will qualify which will fill my heart with joy not to have to watch the Portuguese who I have a hugh dislike for as they represent for me all that is loathsome in modern football.

I agree with the comments regarding Egypt as well tis a shame they are not here

fetishist2004 as ever thank you for your Diaries great work

    Holland - Japan
As in the first game, missed Robben real hard. Also the dutch showed what passive domination means. Agree with the rest of yours, just want to add one thing. Honda's free kick from 40 meteres directly to the goal. A distance for Roberto Carlos, e.g.. Dunno that much about Asian soccer, but I'm quite sure they are not known for strong legged sharp shooter skills ...

    Ghana - Australia
Mostly agree with you, again. But the sent off was unnecesarry. Yeah, the ball hitted his arm, but it was natural position and you could easily see that he wanted his body between the ball and the goal. Could have been better solved, if ref stopped the scene after a Ghanian striker was fouled some secs before. Yellow card and penalty, but the Aussies stayed complete. Don't get me wrong it was no misstake from the ref, just could have been solved better. Also can't say if 11 Socceroos would have been that strong, or if one missing made rest go for 110%. But also can't tell if I can see clearly on this game, though I prefered 3 points for Australia. Would have been a great group constellation.

Just one thing on the last game. It's sad, that you need to outline Assou-Ekotto for not demanding a penalty after a fair tackling in the penalty zone. Thank you.

    Great summaries as always

Agree with you with regards to Egypt - one of the best (if not the best) sides in Africa, who would have certainly got out of the group stages of the tournament.  Mind you, it is FIFA we're talking about here!

    Denmark 2 - 1 Cameroon

Cameroon were much improved from their lousy display against Japan.  Still not good enough to get a result, it lead to an entertaining game with the Danes coming out on top (mainly due to Rommedahl - great performance from him).  Should the Danes beat Japan and go through, i can't see them going any further than the first knock-out round.  Defensively they are not up to scratch.  Mind you, with this world cup, who knows?  There has been some strange results & performances so far!

    Holland 1 - 0 Japan

Congrats to the Dutch on progressing to the next round.  They've not been convincing (who has?) but they should do ok.  Bit of a dull game for me, didn't spark into life really.  The result, however should mean a good game (hopefully) between Denmark & Japan for the other qualifying place in the group.  Then again, it could end up being the same "quality" as France v Uruguay, or (heaven forbid) England v Algeria.  That's been one of the strange things about this world cup - completely unexplainable performances from the top teams and the smaller teams doing ok.

    Ghana 1 - 1 Australia

Just saw some brief highlights of this one.  With regards to the sending off, if you're on the line and the ball hits your hand like that, then the referee has no choice but to send you off.  Sorry Kewell, you can argue all you like, but you had to be sent off.  The Aussies could get through, but with the Aussies having to play serbia in the next game and germany playing ghana I can't see it myself.  The serbians will be on a high after beating germany  and I think they will be too strong for the aussies.  Hopefully it will be end to end stuff, though!

I'm Dutch myself and i want to see the fantastic/great/sparkling entertainment football aswell BUUUUUUUUUUUUUT:

The whole world know's Holland as the country who play's beautifull football but never comes far..... i think the way Holland now play's is a REALISTIC way of playing football, don't underestimate the defencive tactics the team's use we must play against, they all know our strongest features so they all dig in and you must find a way thru, look at Spain vs Swizz, and what about the England game or the Brazil vs North Korea? Team's like that dig in and put up a wall of defence of which everyone expect the other team will go thru like a knife thru butter, not realistic i say, these day's you don't have any 'small' team's anymore, look at today New Sealand vs Italy  Roll Eyes

I say Holland will go all the way  bb_saint After the game with Cameroon when it is about the money Robben will be back and the team's we must play against are team's who WANT to play football aswell which creates more space for all our attackers like Van Persie & Sneijder......

Well, "realistic play" is one way of explaining, the other one is struggling/failing like the rest of the seeded/favourite teams. Of course the Dutch "failed best", with 6 points from 2 games, but the way they play ..., espacially when you compare it to the run up games, were they did fabulous. As said above, imho, it's Robben. He had a great season in Munich and also the game gainst Hungary, it was a real pleasure to watch him (the rest did also fairly well Wink )
Been quite sad, when I heard that he can't/won't play gainst Cameroon Sad

@Puiforcat: Second your point on team work and spirit, but I really don't think they told a lesson to the Europeans. Telling a lesson, means, imho, that you should be able to "survive" the group stage.

But as said before, you can continue, with 3 draws, but over-defensive and "destructive" play won't work above.

With respect I do not agree

It will work and has on so many occasions , most of the coaches of countries like NZ , Korea etc study videos of the greatest defensive nation ever to have played the game???
ITALY they have proved time and time again although not pretty to watch that you can win a game by defending a 1-0 lead they are the masters
These teams must play to there best assets and if you do not have a Messi in your squad you must rely on the counter attack which some of these teams have done

Any how the Italians destroyed and defended and smothered the life out of every team and won the last world cup!!!!!!!!!!!

Respect and we will see lol

Thanks a million my friends for a great feedback. Puiforcat I am truly thankful for your appreciation and your great views. I am sure you have your reasons to hate Portuguese football but there is no denying that they produce quality players every now and then. Thank you for you agreeing with me about the Egypt part and not because I am Egyptian but I seriously know when our National team can perform and when they can't . I am always impartial in my views and the Egyptian team is good then I say so , if they stink I will also admit . Accordingly I still hold my views that they should have been in this cup since they would have shown the world a great balanced game between the attacking and defensive football just like the Germans in general . I remember the German commentator in Eurosport Deutschland once calling them the Germany of the African continent. Well we will have to wait and see what will happen by next WC since I am sure some of the finest players ever in Africa will not be seen on the next world cup as some of them like Mohamed Barakat , Abu Trika might retire before it.

As for Big Balls appreciated comments. I agree and always said that Robben will be missed by Holland no matter how good is the team doing . A player like Robben is gem in any time and he is like a Nitro to a Sport car. Meaning that a guy like him adds like 20%-30% percent boost to the team. This was evident in today's of Italy since they have no player like Del Pierro or the legendary Baggio to finalize a game like the one against New Zealand. As for the Asian football, due to proximity I happen to know the major countries and major clubs in that continent and I can tell you definitely that the only advantages of the Asian football is the speed and good shooting aside from that they lack in tactical and dribbling skills to a great extent with the exception of some of the Arabian countries like Iraq(Asian Champion) and Saudi Arabia for example who have players that have very good dribbling talents. So it's no surprise to me personally that they are able to shoot that well on goals because that is the best thing they actually do.
As for the penalty against Australia , I believe it's 100% correct since Kewell move his body to the right side in an attempt to get the ball with his chest but failed to do that and it ended in his hands , hence the penalty is correct.

Thank my good friend Shodan for the continuous support you are always showing. We seem to agree on pretty much everything my good friend and it's always a pleasure to receive your very accurate comments Shodan. Have a great evening my friend and see you soon in the upcoming 10th day diary pal:)
Thank you my good friends and hope you are enjoying today's games though the Paraguay one was far better than Italy's one so far.

Grrr, have to admit, I forgot about the catenaccio. Though you need to score one, before you can destroy the game, seen it quite often. (Thinkin of the horrible Real-Inter game in the CL)
In the last cup Italy succeeded in a penalty shoot out - coin flip; but actually agree with you

Hopefully we can enjoy a good game now

    Edit:
@ fetishist: I didn't mean that they can't shoot at all, but the distance !40! meters. If it goes to the goal, it's an easy catch for the keeper. Of course when there's much spin during the fly or the ball jumps of from the ground right in front of the goalie, than it gets difficult. That's why I mentioned Roberto Carlos with his unbelievable kicks. But I don't believe Honda could do like that. Also there was no other Japanese who could give the ball another direction.
Advantage of the Japs and other Asian teams is, that they are small and fast, add some more technical abilities and they are great. Just like the Korean coach, I think said, a hungry swarm of flies ...

@ puiforcat: Well, the Germans won most times gainst Portugal, tells my memory, so I hope we'll face them in the quarter or semi finals Wink and I don't wanna pee my pants when I see Ronaldo crying again like a lil girl

Hey another Pharaoh in town:)Smiley. Kudos to you my good friend . Puiforcat.
Big balls : I agree with you pal that if Asians put some solid defense and discipline in their game instead of running with the ball all the time. I believe an Asian World Champion might not be far fetched in a decade or so but yet they always played like that and despite doing ok in this tournament I don't know if they have the right material to go too high in the tournament. But let us see.
My Friend Pulsar: I am not critical of the Dutch performance since it did the job for them and they are in the second round but I know they are suffering from the absence of Robben and lack of good coaching and also many of them are fatigued because they were just finishing the European Championships and leagues . But they are certainly expected to show more if and they are capable of more and it's not about being a realistic team or not because realism is important but if the same performance of today is shown against a team of the Caliber of Argentina or Brazil in the next rounds , they will not be able to get past them. Holland is a great team and I hope that they live up to their name.

Big Balls: Everybody here seems to hate Portugal. I don't know why. LOL

    Who said Ronaldo?

Well, let's hope Brazil goes for first place despite Dunga and Drogba scores as usual against Korea.

Edit: @fetishist: Don't believe the "late" finish for the Dutch affects them. Don't know about their cup, but the Eredivisie ended in the beginning of May, as almost all European leagues did and in the CL Final only Sneijder and Van Bommel took part, which both do great. (Robben also did, but didn't play in the cup till now). It also doesn't seem that it affects the others too much. Müller and Schweinsteiger (Germany/Bayern München) and Lucio and Maricon (Brazil/Inter) seem alright. Forlan and Schwarzer (Europe League Final) do even better.

Les bleues on strike: What a great idea to fight against the publification of their "intern problems" by quitting a public training  lmao
As a response, their manager quitted his job. The team said, that this was meant as a protest action for Anelka's banning ... farce

Hope Ribery comes back home well
